Tall Tales are story-based voyages in the Sea of Thieves that you can experience with your crew in the game?s shared world. They tell a narrative and involve solving puzzles, using unique mechanics, and overcoming perils.
The Cursed Rogue is the second part of the Shores of Gold saga. To start from the beginning, check out our guide to The Shroudbreaker.
This guide walks through the Cursed Rogue Tall Tale, detailing what to expect at each step, as well as where to find those pesky hidden Journals. This guide may contain spoilers, so read at your own risk.
Rewards for the Cursed Rogue Tale
If you manage to complete the Cursed Rogue Tale, you?ll earn Captain Briggsy?s Sword.
Complete the Tale 5 times, and discover all the hidden journals to earn the Order of Souls Eye Curse, giving you the blackened eyes of these mystical seers.
- Every time you complete the Tale, you also pocket 8,000 Gold

Completing The Cursed Rogue
Starting Location: The book where you can vote to begin this tale is on Plunder Outpost in the Order of Souls tent.
Chapter 1: In the Quest Book there are two sets of memories from two different skeletons. One leads to a locked Chest, and the other to a special Key. Use the written and pictured clues in each set of memories to figure out on which island each item is hidden, and where. You can do them in either order, but you need to find both: the Key opens the Chest, which contains two Quest Items.
Take these items back to Madame Olivia at Plunder Outpost, and she?ll give you an Enchanted Tool that will appear in your Quest Wheel.
Chapter 2: Use this Enchanted Tool to discover the island where Briggsy is hiding. You?ll have to defeat her in combat, and she won?t be easy. If you pull it off, you?ll get the skull of a Skeleton Lord!
Final Chapter: Deliver Briggsy?s skull back to Madame Olivia on Plunder Outpost to complete the Tale.
Journal Locations
When a Tall Tale is active, it places journals in the world for you to discover and read. These add details to the story, and also are required to unlock the final commendation of the Tale and earn a cosmetic reward.
I don?t recommend finding journals on your first play through of a Tale, as you may have to sail out of your way and distract from the adventure and story!

- Shark Bait Cove- near the tunnel in a derelict rowboat
- Discovery Ridge- near a wrecked rowboat on the North East side
- Kraken?s Fall- South East side by a grave that is a pile of skulls, next to a fence
- Wanderer?s Refuge- in the ruins up high on the island?s hill
- Crook?s Hollow- in the cave with the endless lizard, next to a tied up skeleton
