What Body Proportion Look Best | The Golden Ratio

You see we can?t deny that our brains are programmed to look for symmetry and balance everywhere, programmed to be attracted to it and to try to create it.

And so, what we consider as good body proportion is really based on what we view as a body that projects certain characteristic that imply bodily symmetry, which is based on the numbers like ?The Golden Ratio?

So, what is The Golden Ratio?

Dating back to ancient Greece, mathematicians have been studying what makes things perfect and precise. This resulted in a formula of measurements which yield the ratio 1: 1.618, known as The Golden Ratio.

The Golden Ratio is number that shows up all over the human body, from the length of the arms and legs compared to the torso, and it seems to define what proportions look best; that is, most attractive.

In fact, artists and sculptors have known about the golden ratio for a long time and have used it to create sculptures and artwork of the ideal human figure. Even plastic surgeons and dental surgeons use it to restructure the human face.

It?s a really interesting bit of science and evolutionary psychology that makes you think.

Da Vinci?s most famous work, the Vitruvian Man, created around 1490, described the human figure as being the principal source of proportion among the Classical orders of architecture. Vitruvius determined that the ideal upper and lower body ratio should be 3.75 : 6.25, which is close to the golden ratio of 1:1.6

Okay, let?s understand there are generally three types of body proportion.

The human body proportion is divided into three types of ratio : 5?5, 4?6, and 3?7, and the upper and lower body ratio of an average person is between 1:1 (5?5) to 1:1.5 (4?6)

How to calculate which body type you belong to?

Body Ratio Formula = (Height-Leg Length) : Leg Length

Height = 174cm Leg Length (Waistline to the foot) = 95cm

Body Ratio = (Height-Leg Length) : Leg Length = (174?95cm) : 95cm = 79 ?95cm = 1: 1.2

Now you know which type of body ratio you?re in?

Let?s say, after you take your measurement and the formula tells you that you?re in 3?7 body ratio, which is a near perfect body ratio, then this simply makes your day!

But, if you?re not in the 3?7 body ratio, not to worry, at least now you know which one you belong to, and it helps to know how close or far you are from the ideal proportion. You may not want to go all the way to the golden target, but at least you know the closer you get the better your proportions will be.
