RTIC VS. YETI COOLER: WHICH IS BETTER?

When looking at the top cooler brands, try to decide what is most important to you. If it is price, durability, compactness, ice retention, etc. The RTIC and Yeti coolers are both great, but I will go in detail about the features in hopes you can find the high quality cooler for all your adventures. Something important to keep in mind is that there are variables that will affect ice retention, including the environment, the weather, the season and the frequency of opening the cooler. So, when you look at the ice retention rates be aware that those variables may affect the numbers.

In case you want to look at more than just ice coolers, both companies offer duffel bags, drinkware and other gear. You can find more information about that at the end of the article.

RTIC

RTIC has roto molded coolers; Roto molding is a method of molding that guarantees the highest quality and one-piece cut. Using roto molding increases the amount of ice retention and ability to withstand wear and tear of usage. The ice retention is said to last for up to 10 days! That?s what you really care about anyway. It has two-inches of polyurethane foam inside the cooler with three-inch-thick lids. They have multiple sizes and colors. RTIC does have larger sizes like its RTIC 110 and RTIC 145, but I chose to not include it in the comparison because Yeti does not have a cooler in those sizes

RTIC 20 Useful when on the job site, golf course, or on a weekend trip with a few friends or by yourself.

RTIC 45 Useful when fishing and hunting a small amount, camping or tailgating.

RTIC 65 Useful when throwing parties, going to all-day events or fishing and hunting with the intent of catching or hunting a lot.

Colors: Arctic White, Mojave Tan and Ocean Blue

Features:

Bear Resistant Cooling Feet

This keeps the ice chest off the ground, which in the end helps the ice chest remain cold.

Draining System

Using the V-drain will be quicker and easier.

Dry Ice Compatibility

If you want to use dry ice, just know it?ll stay nice and cold.

Commercial Grade Insulation with Freezer Grade Gasket

Gasket measuring inch wide and inch thick will help retain the ice as they would be in the freezer.

Non-Slip Lid & Locking System

You can stand on the ice chest without the worry of slipping off.

Molded Tie Down Slots

This is good for bumpy transportation. No matter what happens in the car, everything will be secured on the inside.

Hinge System

No more opening ice chest and accidently separating the lid from its body. This lid will not separate or over extend from the body of the cooler.

Carrying Handles

There are two types of handles: one is molded in style and the other is a rope handle. If you?re deciding which handle to use, think about the weight of the cooler and which would feel most comfortable when carrying the cooler

T-Latches

The T-design holds the lid locked and in place. It?s made of hard-wearing silicone, which makes it good for heavy use.

YETI

Yeti also has roto molded coolers and can offer different colors, shapes and sizes. Yeti has hard coolers and soft coolers, but for the purpose of comparing the RTIC hard coolers, I will just stick to Yeti?s hard coolers. The coolers have two inches of polyurethane foam in the walls and lid. Something interesting is Yeti sued RTIC back in 2015 because RTIC copied basically the entire design. It was said in 2017 that RTIC will release new products, but as you can tell the products are still extremely similar.

Roadie Series: Yeti Roadie 20 Useful for smaller trips as Yeti made this for compactness and easy transportation.

Tundra Series : Yeti Tundra 45 & Yeti Tundra 65 Useful for bigger trips, no matter how big because there is an immense range of cooler sizes. In fact, I left out Yeti 50, 75, 105, 125, 160, 210, 250 and 350 because RTIC does not have a product that is similar in those sizes.

Colors: Seafoam Green, Reef Blue, White, Desert Tan, and Ice Blue

Features:

Fatwall Design

The thick walls hold up two inch thick insulation which means long-lasting ice!

Permafrost Insulation

Just to have the best of the best, there is pressure-injected commercial-grade polyurethane foam in the walls and lid.

T-Rex Lid Latches

These heavyweight rubber latches will not break!

Neverfail Hinge System

There are two hinge pins that interlock. Again, this means cooler will never separate.

Coldlock Gasket

It?s a freezer-like gasket surrounds the entire lid that fights to keep the heat out.

Anchorpoint Tie-Down Slots

Its molded tie-down slots make it easier to travel (AKA more security).

Lipgrip Handles

Grip and hold with no worries or struggles, as long as you are strong enough to carry it!

Doublehaul handles (only for the Yeti 65)

Military-grade polyester rope for more strength.

Interlock Lid System

Another barricade against the heat! The more security the merrier.

Vortex Drain System

Provides an easy way to drain without leakage.

Bearfoot non-slip feet

Step up without hesitation. You will not go slipping and sliding.
