So, let?s get on with it?

Firstly, there?s the number zero, which is ?zro?. And then, here are the numbers 1 to 12 in French with the pronunciation in brackets.

1 ? un (an)2 ? deux (deugh)3 ? trois (twah)4 ? quatre (katr)5 ? cinq (sank)6 ? six (seess)7 ? sept (set)8 ? huit (weet)9 ? neuf (nerf)10 ? dix (deess)11 ? onze (onz)12 ? douze (dooz)

You can use these numbers with this phrase:

Il est ___ heuresIt is ___ o?clock

il est trois heures ? it?s 3 o?clockil est cinq heures ? it?s 5 o?clockil est onze heures ? it?s 11 o?clock

You can get to grips with the numbers one to twelve by repeating them to yourself over and over. The more you count to yourself out loud, the more familiar you?ll become.

Now let?s move onto bigger numbers. Here are the numbers 13 to 20 in French:

13 ? treize14 ? quatorze15 ? quinze16 ? seize17 ? dix-sept18 ? diz-huit19 ? dix-neuf20 ? vingt

21?70

The first twenty numbers are the trickiest to learn, I think, because once you know one to nine, they are simply repeated over and over for most of the tens. Here are the numbers 21 to 70 in French:

21?3021 ? vingt et un22 ? vingt-deux23 ? vingt-trois24 ? vingt-quatre25 ? vingt-cinq26 ? vingt-six27 ? vingt-sept28 ? vingt-huit29 ? vingt-neuf30 ? trente

31?4031 ? trente et un32 ? trente-deux33 ? trente-trois34 ? trente-quatre35 ? trente-cinq36 ? trente-six37 ? trente-sept38 ? trente-huit39 ? trente-neuf40 ? quarante

41?5041 ? quarante et un42 ? quarante-deux43 ? quarante-trois44 ? quarante-quatre45 ? quarante-cinq46 ? quarante-six47 ? quarante-sept48 ? quarante-huit49 ? quarante-neuf50 ? cinquante

51?6051 ? cinquante et un52 ? cinquante-deux53 ? cinquante-trois54 ? cinquante-quatre55 ? cinquante-cinq56 ? cinquante-six57 ? cinquante-sept58 ? cinquante-huit59 ? cinquante-neuf60 ? soixante

61?7061 ? soixante et un62 ? soixante-deux63 ? soixante-trois64 ? soixante-quatre65 ? soixante-cinq66 ? soixante-six67 ? soixante-sept68 ? soixante-huit69 ? soixante-neuf70 ? soixante-dix

You might notice that the numbers un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit and neuf are repeated over and over. The only thing that changes are the tens. So, all you have to learn is vingt, trente, quarante, cinquante and soixante.

70, 80 & 90

You might also notice that the number for 70 is a little odd. It?s actually ?sixty-ten?, which is ?soixante-dix?. It then goes sixty-eleven, sixty-twelve, sixty-thirteen etc. So, here are the numbers 71?80:

71?8071 ? soixante et onze (sixty and eleven)72 ? soixante-douze (sixty-twelve)73 ? soixante-treize (sixty-thirteen)74 ? soixante-quatorze (sixty-fourteen)75 ? soixante-quinze (sixty-fifteen)76 ? soixante-seize (sixty-sixteen)77 ? soixante-dix-sept (sixty-seventeen)78 ? soixante-dix-huit (sixty-eighteen)79 ? soixante-dix-neuf (sixty-nineteen)80 ? quatre-vingts

Then, from 80?100, the numbers get even more bizarre. If you look at ?80? in the last list, it was ?quatre-vingts?, which literally means ?four-twenties? (Four twenties is eighty).

It then goes four-twenty-one, four-twenty-two, four-twenty-three, all the way to four-twenty-nineteen. So, here are the numbers 81?100:

81?9081 ? quatre-vingt-un (four-twenty-one)82 ? quatre-vingt-deux (four-twenty-two)83 ? quatre-vingt-trois (four-twenty-three)84 ? quatre-vingt-quatre (four-twenty-four)85 ? quatre-vingt-cinq (four-twenty-five)86 ? quatre-vingt-six (four-twenty-six)87 ? quatre-vingt-sept (four-twenty-seven)88 ? quatre-vingt-huit (four-twenty-eight)89 ? quatre-vingt-neuf (four-twenty-nine)90 ? quatre-vingt-dix (four-twenty-ten)

91?10091 ? quatre-vingt-onze (four-twenty-eleven)92 ? quatre-vingt-douze (four-twenty-twelve)93 ? quatre-vingt-treize (four-twenty-thirteen)94 ? quatre-vingt-quatorze (four-twenty-fourteen)95 ? quatre-vingt-quinze (four-twenty-fifteen)96 ? quatre-vingt-seize (four-twenty-sixteen)97 ? quatre-vingt-dix-sept (four-twenty-seventeen)98 ? quatre-vingt-dix-huit (four-twenty-eighteen)99 ? quatre-vingt-dix-neuf (four-twenty-nineteen)100 ? cent

Once you get past 100, it?s easy; you just start all over again except you have the word ?cent? in front of everything:

The 100s

101?110101 ? cent un102 ? cent deux103 ? cent trois104 ? cent quatre105 ? cent cinq106 ? cent six107 ? cent sept108 ? cent huit109 ? cent neuf110 ? cent dix

And then 200 is ?deux cents?. However, if you put something after it, it changes slightly to ?deux cent??

200? 210200 ? deux cents201 ? deux cent un202 ? deux cent deux203 ? deux cent trois204 ? deux cent quatre205 ? deux cent cinq206 ? deux cent six207 ? deux cent sept208 ? deux cent huit209 ? deux cent neuf210 ? deux cent dix

This is also the same for 300, 400, 500 etc

300? 1000300 ? trois cents301 ? trois cent un302 ? trois cent deux303 ? trois cent trois400 ? quatre cents500 ? cinq cents600 ? six cents700 ? sept cents800 ? huit cents900 ? neuf cents1000 ? mille
