6 Free Spots to Work in NYC

6 Free Spots to Work in NYC

Keeping it 100, New York City isn?t cheap to live, so finding free spots with solid wifi to work is like finding a mall that doesn?t ban Roy Moore. If you dig into Google, you?ll find Alleywatch?s post and another from Built In NYC about free coworking spaces for bootstrapped entrepreneurs and freelancers. Since they?re a tad bit old, it wouldn?t hurt to update the list.

1. AWS Pop-up Loft

My go-to spot, Amazon has a spacious spot on W. Broadway with fast Wifi, occasion free food, AWS architects, coffee, and free (root) beer. Just like everyone else, I thought it was actual beer until I decided to pour a glass to see if they were serving some without a license. When it?s warm outside, you can step out to the patio even though the Wifi isn?t reliable.

2. Lincoln Center Public Space

A nice option if you live in Upper Manhattan and don?t want to go all the way down Flatiron, West Village, or other parts of the island. A fun spot to crash for a few hours, but be ever vigilant for the little to no outlets there.

3. Cadillac House

A new gem I found, Cadillac House feels slightly more uppity, but a nice spot to venue if you need a quick spot. You can even take phone calls in the cars when you have a sales call, team meeting, or investor chat.

4. Ace Hotel

A stable for daytime workers and night owls, Ace Hotel offers food, spirits, free Wifi, and music on specific nights. If you?re in the mood for coffee, Stumptown Coffee Roasters is located towards the front of the hotel.

5. Wix Lounge (Axed)

Another staple for the Big Apple, Wix has a conference room, support help for Wix clients, coffee, and plenty of desk space. To get in can be tricky as there is not always a receptionist at the desk to buzz folks in, but don?t let that stop you if you?re in the area needing a spot to work.

? Update: Wix Lounge is now closed to the public. You been warned.

6. The NoMad Hotel

Cocktails, comfy chairs, and room full of books, what more could you ask from NoMad Hotel? Another plus is the space is pretty quiet, so you?re able to stay focus as long as you want.

If you?re adamant on sticking to a cafe, then try Workfrom as they verify spots optimal for freelancers, bootstrapped entrepreneurs, and small teams.

Is there a new spot I haven?t discovered? Ping me please!

Updated: Wix Lounge is no longer no to the public as of 2017.
