What could be the problem? Is it your phone? Your power source? The adapter? Or, the Lightning cable?
The Lightning cable is the proprietary cable you use to connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod to a power source to charge your device or to a computer to sync files (or also charge).
To identify what?s causing the charging problem on your iPhone, we suggest you follow these steps:
1. Check the iPhone charging port for debris, lint, or some other obstruction. Try blowing into the port to remove the obstruction. You may also use a cotton swab, toothpick or dry soft brush to clean the area before connecting the cable.
2. Change the wall outlet or USB port where your device is plugged. Sometimes it?s just a defective power outlet.
3. Check the lighting cable for damage. Most of the time, this is what?s causing the problem. Any damage to the cable will prevent your iPhone from charging.
So why do iPhone Lightning cables stop working?
First of all, reports of Lightning cable failures happen in consistent places:
a. At the junction point between the Lightning plug and the soft plastic cable
b. Some impact the Lightning plug?s pins
c. A few are at or near the USB port.
These could be due to strain and corrosion ? in other words, normal wear and tear. Sometimes it?s because you are using a cheap knock-off cable of low quality. You will encounter an error that the cable is not certified on the iPhone if this is what is causing the charging issue.
Are there ways to remedy the situation when lighting cable is the problem?
Unfortunately, there are not many you can do especially if the cable is pretty damaged. But you can try to unplug the cable from the iPhone and then plug it back in. If you?re charging your iPhone by plugging it into a PC or Mac, try plugging the cable into another USB port if that doesn?t work. Eventually, however, you?ll have to replace your defective cable with a new, ideally an original or Apple-certified Lightning cable to ensure you don?t encounter same problem very soon.
We have tips for you on how you can extend the life of your new cable:
1. Grasp the hard plastic jacket, and only the hard plastic jacket, when connecting and disconnecting the Lightning plug.
2. Don?t strain or kink the cable. Keep in mind that your cable contains bundles of thin wires that can break easily. If you stretch a cable to its maximum length and tug, put a bunch of sharp bends into the centre of the cable, or knot it, you may see what appears to be elastic, rubbery flexibility outside, but the metal inside is preparing to snap.
3. Keep the pins clean and away from liquids to prevent corrosion. Should the pin make contact with any liquid, dry off any moisture immediately.
