What is art and design? Art VS Design.

What is art and design? Art VS Design.

What is art and design?

We often think about design and art as of the same thing, but in fact, there are some particular differences that separate these two forms of creativity. Even though both artists and designers aim to create a visual image, their reasons may be completely different. People often believe that there is a fine line between design and art since art often appears in design magazines and designers are engaged with art projects. The difference between art and design is becoming less obvious, when in fact there is a huge gap. So let?s examine this topic a little more and find out the basis of each form of craft. If we want to clearly distinguish between art and design, first we need to do is know ?what is art and design?.

What is art?

Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts (artworks), expressing the author?s imaginative, conceptual ideas, or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. In their most general form these activities include the production of works of art, the criticism of art, the study of the history of art, and the aesthetic dissemination of art.

The three classical branches of art are painting, sculpture and architecture. Music, theatre, film, dance, and other performing arts, as well as literature and other media such as interactive media, are included in a broader definition of the arts. Until the 17th century, art referred to any skill or mastery and was not differentiated from crafts or sciences. In modern usage after the 17th century, where aesthetic considerations are paramount, the fine arts are separated and distinguished from acquired skills in general, such as the decorative or applied arts.

Though the definition of what constitutes art is disputed and has changed over time, general descriptions mention an idea of imaginative or technical skill stemming from human agency and creation. The nature of art and related concepts, such as creativity and interpretation, are explored in a branch of philosophy known as aesthetics.

What is Design?

A design is a plan or specification for the construction of an object or system or for the implementation of an activity or process, or the result of that plan or specification in the form of a prototype, product or process. The verb to design expresses the process of developing a design. In some cases, the direct construction of an object without an explicit prior plan (such as in craftwork, some engineering, coding, and graphic design) may also be considered to be a design activity. A design usually has to satisfy certain goals and constraints[disambiguation needed], may take into account aesthetic, functional, economic, or socio-political considerations, and is expected to interact with a certain environment. Major examples of designs include architectural blueprints, engineering drawings, business processes, circuit diagrams, and sewing patterns.

The person who produces a design is a designer, which is a term generally used for people who work professionally in one of the various design areas ? usually specifying which area is being dealt with (such as a textile designer, fashion designer, product designer, concept designer, web designer (website designer) or interior designer), but also others such as architects and engineers. A designer?s sequence of activities is called a design process, possibly using design methods. The process of creating a design can be brief (a quick sketch) or lengthy and complicated, involving considerable research, negotiation, reflection, modelling, interactive adjustment and re-design.

Society interpret design as sketches, painting, packaging. Some of them take it as a product ? camera, phone, sofa, and chairs. It?s true, but design is not that limited. In fact, design is broad.

Have you ever seen a beautiful home? That is a result of good design. Software or Application? Both also example of design. A questionnaire, organizational hierarchy, or even ? business structure? That?s also design. To get the same idea of what design actually are, let?s see design on the same perspective.

Google define design as: do or plan (something) with a specific purpose or intention in mind.

Referring to that definition, we could safely say that design is a method; a method to reach a specified objective. Design is how we solve problem in our own way ? objectively.

What is the difference between art and design?

It is important to differentiate between design and art. Design is objective, while art is subjective. Good designer solves problem. Even an ugly website with excellent functionality are a much ? better design than beautiful website with bad functionality.

Artists and designers both create visual compositions using a shared knowledge base, but their reasons for doing so are entirely different.

Some designers consider themselves artists, but few artists consider themselves designers.

So what exactly is the difference between art and design? In this post, we?ll examine and compare some of the core principles of each craft.

Art creates a problem ? design solves it

Throughout human history, art has been attacked because of its uniqueness or diversity. For example, for a long time, society did not understand the meaning of the ?black square? that Kazimir Malevich said. It seems that the actual art always encounters certain problems or bans. Many artists often find themselves only one step away from prison. Modern art is always condemned by classical school believers, and the classic school always laughs at classic art.

On the other hand, the design is designed to solve the problem. The goal is to meet some of the customer?s needs, such as making the application interface more user-friendly, finding new solutions for the environment or helping to develop more convenient technologies. Designers bring real value to people, not just another craft in the gallery.

Unlike art, design has a goal

As we said before, the design is designed to achieve some results and solve specific problems, basically making the world more comfortable. Designing for design doesn?t make any sense. If a project has too many elements, this makes it beautiful, but not practical ? it?s not a design, it?s a work of art.

Artists create ideas without considering the goals of the work. In addition to demonstrating their ambitions, they are not eager to reach any other peak. Artists are primarily inspired by impulsiveness, and their masterpieces are designed to ask questions rather than give answers.

Art is for artists, design is for people

Art people work for themselves and artists. There is a huge number of art objects in the workshops and archives waiting for their time. And even if a masterpiece was able to find its place in any person?s life, it should be remembered that the artist did not work for people, but rather for his self-expression.

Designers have to always focus on the needs of an end user and study the problems of the target audience. Design is a sphere that solves everyday problems of society. Professional designers learn to put themselves in the shoes of customers in order to understand their thoughts and forget about their own.

Art is a constant search, while design is observing

The birth of all masterpieces of art and even the entire era is the result of people looking for new themes, forms and ideas. Of course, the main themes of art tend to remain the same, but the driving force is constant research on current issues and new ways of expressing one?s creativity.

Good design uses the knowledge gained from experience. In his work, the designer uses what he considers to be the most convenient example and past experience. The design process is based on repetition, improvement and adjustment of previous solutions. For example, if a designer notices that a person likes a particular feature, he will use it in the next project.

Art is multifaceted, design is obvious

For artist?s work, what the artist wants to tell is usually still a mystery. In the museum, visitors can make completely different judgments on the same piece of art. Modern art is now not easily accessible intellectually. The world?s largest masterpiece sparked discussions and debates that could last for many centuries.

At the same time, the design must be as clear as possible. Users should not have any problems, everything is obvious and intuitive. You should know what the purpose of each element is. On this issue, two people should not have different considerations.

One can be a great designer, but poor artist

Let us face the fact that all great artists have the natural talents born with them. Of course, people can master certain skills over time, but if a person has no talent, he may not be as successful as someone who owns it. Unfortunately, art skills without talent are almost worthless.

However, design is something that everyone can learn and master. You don?t have to know how to paint, you just need to study design principles and how to turn ideas into reality. There are many well-known designers who have a very simple signature style. Instead of focusing on the drawing itself, they focus on size and spacing while learning it over time.

Art is based on traditions, design is based on needs

Art has existed in the early stages of human social development. For centuries, art has been one of the most important areas of artistic creation. The oldest works of art are based on the special content of the image, focusing on the aesthetics of the material and the rational construction of the form. This trend has been maintained until now and is reflected in contemporary art.

Unlike art, historical traditions are revered and often the most important, and designs often leave them in the background or give up altogether. Design is the process of developing sensible and creative solutions to human problems. In a professional understanding, design means developing artistic activities with high consumer and aesthetic quality industrial products to provide a comfortable residential, industrial or social environment. In the Italian Renaissance, people used the concept of ?design?, which meant a project or drawing of an idea.

I think if you read this article, you may know something about the what is art and design. This is not an authoritative statement about ?what is art and design?. You can leave your idea in the bottom area.
