Top 5 Best Bearded Dragon Enclosures That Your Beardie Will Love

Top 5 Best Bearded Dragon Enclosures That Your Beardie Will Love

A bearded dragon cage is a must in order to keep a pet bearded dragon healthy and content. They cannot roam about a home freely like a dog or a cat. Pet bearded dragons or ?beardies? still maintain the behaviors of wild beardies in Australia. They will escape and hide if given the slightest opportunity. This can lead to the death of the lizard through dehydration, starvation, injury from being stepped on or from prolonged exposure to cold.

Type of Cages Available for Bearded Dragons

Glass or acrylic aquariums make excellent vivarium, provided they are not located in a draft or in direct sunlight. Another alternative is a wooden cage, but this must be treated with polyurethane to prevent the wood from rotting. A treated wooden cage needs to dry for several days before a lizard can live inside of it. Otherwise, the lizard may die from inhaling polyurethane fumes. Wire cages only work for absolute emergencies but make poor bearded dragon housing in the long term.

Ideal Bearded Dragon Cage Size

Before getting into discussing what cage is best for bearded dragons and great to buy lets first understand what size you need based on the age of your bearded dragon.

It is extremely important that your beardie has enough room to run about and exercise.

Ideal Cage Size for Baby Bearded Dragons

For baby bearded dragons, the minimum recommended cage size is 20-gallon which measures 30x13x12 inches. However, we recommend buying a 40-gallon in the first go as you will need to upgrade in about 3 to 5 months? time anyway.

Ideal Cage Size for Juvenile Bearded Dragons

For bearded dragons that are 4 to 5 months old (Typically 10 inches long), the minimum recommended cage size is 40-gallon however, they will do better in a 55 to 75-gallon tank.

Ideal Cage Size for Full Grown Bearded Dragons

For a full-grown bearded dragon that is about 15 to 18 months old, you will need a cage that is at least 100 to 120-gallon. Some people in the bearded dragon community also recommend a 55-gallon tank for small bearded dragons however, we think a 55-gallon is way too small for an adult bearded dragon.

Remember, the bigger the cage the better

Note:

Before getting into the best bearded dragon enclosures part we want to clarify a few things first.

1..The cages we listed in this post are all high quality that will last for a long time but this doesn?t mean that you couldn?t find another cage or enclosure that is of quality for less.

2.. Avoid Buying the ?starter kits? or ?all in one enclosure? from Pet Stores as These Tend to be of low quality. If you do buy one of these chances are you will have to buy the cage accessories twice as most of them won?t work.
