Humble Hues: The Five Best Colors for Sofas

There are a lot of important factors to take into consideration when buying a sofa. We?ve gone over the basics before, but today we?re going to focus in on one of the factors with the most options ? color. Color isn?t even just a consideration for new sofas. Maybe you have a sofa whose structure is in tact, but its upholstery needs some freshening. You?ll still need to decide on a color for your couch. So what is the best color for sofas? At its heart it?s really a personal decision based on what you like and what works in your space. But today we?re going to offer our choices for the sofa colors that will work best in the widest range of interiors.

Beige

The sofa color that will work in pretty much any style sofa with almost any color palette is beige. With cooler beiges and warmer beiges available there?s a beige for every space. Beige even has a bit of a leg up over white, because it doesn?t show dirt as easily as white. If you choose a beige sofa you essentially have a blank slate around which to build the rest of your decor.

Blue

While only navy blue is traditionally considered a neutral, all shades of blue have sofa potential. Blue is a highly versatile color ? it looks great in any room and can be used in many different styles. Blue works well with numerous colors so it won?t throw off your color palette, but can add a touch of unexpected color. Depending on the shade of blue you choose it can act as a neutral or be a statement piece.

Gray

Last year we declared gray to be our new favorite neutral, and that stands for sofas as well. Like beige, there are warmer grays and cooler grays, as well as lighter and darker grays, so it?s easy to find the right gray for your space. Similar to how beige has an advantage over white, gray also has an advantage over black. Black will show any light colored hair (human or animal) more than gray, and dirt can actually show up more on black than on gray.

Red

The boldest of our selections, red is a surprisingly versatile sofa color. Red is a popular color choice in traditional and mid-century modern style but can also be a great pop of color in more contemporary or minimalist interiors. It works against neutral walls but can also look good with blue, or even pink walls. The eye-catching color will add a nice warmth to your space, which can be welcome in minimalist spaces that can tend to be a bit cold.

Brown

Brown is the most popular color for leather sofas. From lighter tans to rich chocolates there are a lot of options within brown itself. Brown is a good choice if you have pets or children who may track dirt onto the sofa. Brown isn?t just for leather, it can look good in other fabrics like wools and polyesters too. Brown may not be the most exciting color around but it can add warmth and earthiness to an interior for those seeking more natural color palettes.

Of course these are just the more versatile colors for sofas. Any color that works with your decor and that you love is going to be the best for you and your sofa. But if you plan on moving or redecorating a lot, these colors will give you the most options. However if your sofa location and the decor surrounding it aren?t going to be changing any time soon, don?t hesitate to get that green, purple, pink, or yellow sofa you?ve had your eye on!
