Recently I faced an issue with my AirPods (generation 2). While using them, I noticed that my right side AirPod is quieter than the left. Because of this imbalance, the sound appears to be coming from the left side instead of the center of my head.
A quick internet search revealed that this is a common problem caused by ear wax. You can resolve this issue by trying one of the following solutions.
#1 ? Clean your AirPods
Wipe clean your AirPods with a cloth slightly dampened with fresh water and dry with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Don?t use sharp objects or abrasive materials to clean. Please follow the detailed steps listed at How to clean your AirPods and EarPods
While searching about this issue, I found one of the tips that are not covered by the above articles is ? Try to suck the speaker on your AirPods. This will clean the earwax. It is gross but has worked for many people.
You can purchase cleaning brushes or hearing aids kits to help you with the cleaning. Remember, this is a common problem caused by ear wax and it is not new to the people who wear hearing aids. So use one of the cleaning solutions used by them.
#2 ? Reset your AirPods
Try resetting your AirPods by following steps listed at Reset your AirPods and If your left or right AirPod isn?t working
#3 ? Contact Apple support to get AirPods replaced
If your AirPods are still under warranty, then get them replaced by contacting Apple support. They can replace either by mail or by sending you to the nearest Apple shop.
An alternative approach would be to contact Apple support. I contacted Apple support via phone. The support person asked me a few questions, performed some troubleshooting, and then offered to replace my AirPods.
Wow! That?s amazing that Apple does that. My AirPods are still under a one-year limited warranty.
Apple support person was able to verify my AirPods warranty from its serial number. You can find your AirPods serial number in your iPhone settings (Settings ? General ? About ? AirPods). Your AirPods need to be connected.
Bonus #4 ? Purchase a new AirPod
If your AirPods are old then you could replace them with new AirPods. A new AirPods Pro is available for $230. and AirPods is available for $130.
