Search Encrypt is available as a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox. It works by encrypting your search terms locally for added privacy. Search Encrypt is a private search engine that uses perfect forward secrecy to make sure only you can see what you?re searching for.

Our main purpose as a search engine and browser extension is to protect your privacy online. We don?t track your search history in any user identifiable way and we hope to encourage practicing safe searches across the web.

Our product is not a virus, in fact, it is quite the opposite. Viruses are created to harm computer systems and their users. We protect you by encrypting your search terms and keeping them private and hidden from anyone who gains access to your computer, or even our servers.

Our servers don?t store any user-identifiable data about you. We hope to address any concerns that Search Encrypt is a virus or malware with complete clarity and transparency.

If you?re confused about why your searches are being taken to SearchEncrypt.com and not to Bing or Google, for example, click on ?Learn More? ? or visit our FAQ page. Some blogs have incorrectly labelled Search Encrypt as a ?browser hijacker? or ?virus?, when we are actually working to protect your search terms from internet trackers.

How Can I Stop My Searches From Being Redirected?

If you click on the Search Encrypt icon in the upper right-hand corner of your browser window, you will see menu below. ??

From this menu, you can then select ?Stop Redirecting Searches?, which allows you to quickly pause the extension. Then you can search with Google, Bing, or another search engine that we redirect, if you?d like.

Another option is to choose ?Settings?. From Settings, you will be taken to this menu. ??

If you want to customize your search experience while using Search Encrypt, you can choose to not redirect searches from the above list. If you want to avoid trackers from Google, but want to keep Bing as a backup search engine, you can do so with Search Encrypt.
