Gothic decor colors can change atmosphere. Atmosphere is the importance of descriptive detail to set a mood. Using colors is a part of each person?s characteristic and stories. Gothic decor usually reminds us of these most common colors: Black, Red, Purple, Gold, Blue, Green and Brown. What is the meaning of each colors ?

1. Black & Red

These are the most common colors associated with Gothic decor: Black and Red

We associate the colors Black and Red with the Gothic genre. Their symbolism and the emotional response from people when they see these colors.

According to a few studies, Red is a dominant and dynamic color, has an exciting and stimulating hue effect. Red can creat positive and negative emotion. It depends on circumstances: Passion and warm as well as aggression and intensity.

Red is the color of fire and blood. It is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination ? passion, desire and love.,etc. Color Red enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate and raises blood pressure. It has very high visibility and widely used to indicate danger.

Black relates to power, elegance, formality, death, evil and mystery. Black is a mysterious color, associates with fear and the unknown ? negative connotation. If combining with red or orange, black gives a very aggressive color scheme.

2. Blue

Blue evoked negative emotions. It associate with the night and dark skies, making some people feel depressed.

Some results stated that the color Blue elicited a high number of positive emotional responses including ?feelings of relaxation and calmness, happiness and comfort, peace, and hope? and low number of negative response like sadness or depression.

People believes that Blue connects with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth and heaven. Darker shade of blue represents knowledge, power, intergrity and seriousness.

3. Purple

Second only to red, purple is right up there on the Gothic colour spectrum. Color Purple combines the energy and strength from the colour red, with spirituality and integrity from the colour blue.

Purple calls for creative doings and seeks inspiration and originality through its creative efforts. It is a rarely occurring colour in nature and is often seen as having sacred meaning. It likes to be unique, individual and independent ? not one of the crowd.

Gold produce warming effect, stimulates mental activity. In heraldry, gold indicates honor and loyalty. It is unstable and spontaneous color. Avoid using it if you want to suggest stability and safety.
