Blank Room Soup

Often touted as one of the top disturbing online videos of all time, the video that has come to be known as BlankRoomSoup.avi is a viral video that has been circulating around the internet for about a decade now. Rumors abound about this video having come from the deep web, and depicting a man being tortured. It has even been suggested that he is being forced to eat soup that has been made from the meat of his murdered wife. And yet, if you watch this video, you will find that it contains absolutely no suggestion of torture, or any other brutalities, of any kind. The video, in fact, appears in every way to be the complete opposite of everything that has been said about it.

I have never understood why so many people find BlankRoomSoup.avi to be so disturbing, as it has been obvious to me from the first time that I ever watched it, that this entire art piece is one about comfort and compassion. As a man, who is clearly upset, eats his meal in isolation, the two characters of RayRay, originally created by Raymond S. Percy, and as explained by ReignBot in her video (below) reportedly stolen by unknown individuals who then created this video, arrive to provide this man comfort. As they lay their hands upon him, he nearly explodes with the pain that he has been doing his best to suppress inside of himself, and has been unable to fully release until feeling the comfort and the compassion that they are providing. The characters of RayRay themselves, with their over-large heads and child-like features, along with the over-large spoon with which the man eats, produce an effective roll reversal, in which the adult becomes the child (symbolic of the child within), and the children take on the role of the comforting parents.

In her video (below) ReignBot shares Raymond Percy?s description of how he originally created the Characters of RayRay to deal with his own sense of isolation, which is clearly mirrored by the ?blank room? in the video its self. In another video (below), SuperHorrorBro shares a description by the alleged creators of this video of how they could see the pain of conflict within Raymond Percy?s RayRay shows between his creativity and the corporate interests that allow him to create, and this video was a form of his liberation. The descriptions provided within both of these videos not only support my interpretation of Blank Room Soup, as described above, but strongly suggest to me that it was indeed Raymond S. Percy who was the creator of these videos and that the descriptions provided within these two videos were actually attempts by him to set the record straight about what the video was actually about. It is not hard to see that, given the way that the videos were interpreted, he may feel forced to deny any involvement in these videos as they could do irreparable damage to his career with these corporate entities. Unless he were to come forward with the truth that he created them, however, it must remain mere speculation as to whether he was directly involved or whether this video was actually created by others.

The discrepancy of how this video has been interpreted by the larger general public, and my own interpretation above, gives further credence to what Lyrca explained in my previous post about The Nature of Story, in which Lyrca describes how story, and what is gotten out of it, takes place within the minds of individual audience members as opposed to what the creator created or may have intended.
