Beauty oils have seen a worldwide breakthrough. And why not? These oils not only improve the moisture and texture of the skin but also add sheen to hair ? promoting growth and soothing the scalp. Benefits aplenty, and there?s a lot of these natural ingredients out there.

Two that stand out are Argan Oil and Jojoba Oil. They?re badasses at what they do. And you?ll find ?em in every facet of the beauty world ? from face oils to hair conditioners to body lotions.

So let?s see how these two cosmetic staples compare for hair, skin, and everything in-between. To help you pick which will work best for your condition, we?ll go over the similarities and differences between Argan Oil and Jojoba Oil.

What is Argan Oil?

Argan oil springs from Argania Spinosa (the Moroccan argan tree), in which its kernels are pressed to extract the miracle oil. Nicknamed liquid gold, argan oil consists of fatty acids (oleic and linoleic to name a few), phenols, squalene, vitamin E, and carotenes.

Moroccans have used this naturally-occurring oil for culinary and cosmetic purposes since around 600 BC. The world started catching up on its potential. And its trajectory into Western cosmetics industry has led to a great variety of beauty products. Quite overwhelming.

What is Jojoba Oil?

Similar to argan, jojoba oil is also filled to the brim with antioxidants and fatty acids. We get this oil, which is indeed more wax than oil, from the seeds of the North American shrub jojoba (the Simmondsia Chinensis). The wax is extracted from the seeds and mixed with water to form a liquid wax ester mixture.

Argan Oil vs Jojoba Oil for Skin

Both oils serve as excellent humectants, but oily skin benefits most from argan oil ?cause it reduces skin?s oiliness. Jojoba oil is a better choice for sensitive skin. They both keep the skin moist while offering healing and anti-inflammatory elements. But for removing dead skin cells, argan oil exfoliates better ? thanks to its phenols.

Sterols and vitamins A & E in argan oil help boost skin elasticity, which prevents and combats stretch marks. Red bumps, razor burns and bumps, and in-grown hairs all get soothed and relieved with this oil.

On the other hand, jojoba oil tackles skin conditions like eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis with antibacterial elements to cleanse your pores. (To be fair, they both do this ? only, jojoba treats drying skin conditions better.)

These natural oils provide anti-aging benefits by increasing skin elasticity. They also contain antioxidants that protect the skin from sun damage and prevent sunburn, but don?t expect much in that department. While argan oil has no SPF, jojoba oil takes the upper hand with a natural SPF of 4.

As for acne-prone skin, argan oil ? with a comedogenic rating of 0 ? tends to be the better fighter. There?s zero chance it?ll clog your pores but jojoba oil?s rating of 2 indicates a tiny possibility of this.

Among its many fatty acids, the high concentration of linoleic acid in argan oil (~35%) further makes it perfect for acne-prone skin. Jojoba oil contains just 5%.

Argan Oil vs Jojoba Oil for Hair

These beauty oils hydrate the scalp and soothe hair follicles to foster hair growth. But if you?re looking for the one that?s close to sebum (the oils your body naturally produces), feel free to jump on the jojoba oil bandwagon.

Argan oil, in defence, relieves and softens the hair with its antioxidant-heavy properties. It also helps the body fight any imbalances between free radicals and antioxidants, i.e., oxidative stress.

Shampooing and conditioning your hair with these oils offer endless benefits. (E.g., they effectively tame frizz and flyaways, relieve dryness, combat rogue hairs, prevent hair loss, and make hair soft and shiny.) But each works for different hair conditions better than the other.

Turn to jojoba oil if you wanna get rid of dandruff and scalp dermatitis. Its antifungal make-up to the rescue! And since it regulates your oil production and mimics your sebum more closely, its hair growth mechanism is more powerful. In comparison, argan oil makes hair grow thicker and longer by improving blood flow to hair follicles, thanks to its high vitamin E content.

Argan Oil vs Jojoba Oil for Lips, Nails, Lashes, and More

Both oils work wonders for lips, eyebrows and lashes, cuticles, fingernails, toenails, heels, knees, elbows, etc. They even ramp up the effects of active ingredients like retinol when used together.

They smoothen cracked heels and soothe sore, dry or chapped lips. They also strengthen nail beds, soften cuticles, stimulate healthy nail growth, and remedy nail fungal infection. As for makeup removal, jojoba oil exclusively dissolves any makeup in a wink.

One last thing. An allergic reaction to jojoba oil is rare compared to argan and other plant oils. Mainly because it?s wax ? chemically. It has an unbeatable shelf-life too ? 5 years vs. jojoba oil?s 2 years.

TL;DR: Jojoba oil is better for hair while argan oil works better for the skin. For other uses, they?re pretty close to the same thing. But why choose when you can have both?
