Arrested Developments reboots so far have not proved to be a success for the show at all. But turns out Netflix might be giving it a third chance as it prepares to renew Arrested Development For Season 6.
Arrested Development has been one of the most ground breaking television of the early 2000s. Before Arrested Development?s existence came into place, the genre ?Mockumentary? hadn?t been discovered.
The story of an eccentric family, Arrested development became one of the most influential sitcoms of it?s time. So there was little choice left for Netflix when it first brought back the beloved American Comedy in 2013 and the news was met with huge excitement from the fans of the non-functional family.
Highlights
- Arrested Development: The Success
- Arrested Development: The Mistake
- Arrested Development: The Future
And season 5 opened to middling reviews in 2018 and Part 2 in 2019. But despite the errors and bumps, is Arrested Development coming back to Netflix for good this time?
Arrested Development: The Success
Arrested Development first arrived in the scene in 2003 with the narrative of a dysfunctional family of narcissists who are trying to keep their corrupt family business of real estate alive in California. If this premise doesn?t sound particularly comedy gold to you, it?s because there was nothing like this on Television before.
Arrested Development Is Back For Season 6 With Netflix
In a sea of characters, likable funny characters from the world of Friends and Seinfeld were the centre of comedy heights.
Who then would have liked a group of liars, failed magicians, corrupt businessmen, sleazes and drunks? But turns out Arrested Development, a single camera setup moving very far away from the world of laugh-tracks and set studios with live audience was the answer.
Arrested Development had heart, humility, humour in a mix of ill-characters each worse than the other. The audience slowly but surely fell in love with the quirky, eccentric group of characters on TV and this acceptance has led to shows like The Office to turn out like they did.
Arrested Development: The Mistake
After the cult-success of the first three seasons of Arrested Development, fans rejoiced when Netflix announced it had struck a deal to revive the show for a fourth season in 2011.
Two years later, the show finally premiered on Netflix in 2014 to negative reviews. In a way, the reason for the failure of the show was the show itself. In Arrested Development Season 4, due to the cast now having become stars we hardly ever got to see them together. Portia De Rossi, Michael Cera, Jason Bateman and Jessica Walter were too busy to schedule their shoots together and the budget of the show didn?t help the problem either.

As a result, Arrested Development having always benefitted from the cast?s incredible onscreen chemistry was forced into a format where they hardly ever overlapped. And soon it was clear, the writers of Arrested Development had lost sight of what the show was really about.
Arrested Development: The Future
Season 5 of Arrested Development although fared better than the Season 4, it also opened to middling reviews and very little buzz.
In Season 5 of Arrested Development we see a family with a conman father, an entitled daughter who thinks of herself as a saviour of the marginalised and a wife not bothered is too similar to the family that currently serves America. And as cast member Will Arnett puts it ?there is nothing remotely funny about it.?
To make matters worse, Jason Bateman, the lead, was shown as the one responsible character in the show throughout until Season 5. Bateman?s character then starts dating his son?s girlfriend played by Isla Fisher. This plotline received major backlash from the audience and by the end of Season 5 the plotlines had become too muddled that one would need a doctorate to get through all of them.
But, Netflix might be giving Arrested Development another chance if the shows exec have learned from their previous mistakes which they would have in order to keep making the show successful.
So, looks like the dysfunctional family might be back for a season 6 after all. Do you want a Season 6 of Arrested Development or should this be it? Let us know in the comments below!
